AT&T Corp. this week breaks a tearjerker for its 1 800 To Be Safe service, with a teen-age runaway longing to talk to his mom after seeing families buying Christmas trees.

Young & Rubicam, New York, created the spot to highlight AT &T's commitment to people, said Steve Graham, AT&T's national director of marketing communications. The complimentary service connects consumers to a national travelers aid hot line.
