Heavy metal Apple

Published on .

Apple Computer, continuing its odd Web marketing alliances, will offer Web users a sneak preview of metal band Metallica's new album, "Load." Apple on June 10 will webcast a short concert from its site; it will also offer video footage of the concert, rehearsals and fans.

The Apple tie-in continues once Metallica starts its concert tour on June 27; band members will take PowerBooks along, Apple reports, and provide regular updates for their Web site.

Apple has linked with a variety of entertainment entities to promote its technology on the Web. It has webcast the Grammy Awards, created a tie-in with "Mission Impossible" and run ads touting the fact that BMW used Apple products to create its Web site.
