HEINZ TO BUY SAUCE AND SOUP BRANDS FROM BORDEN

(June 6, 2001) -- H.J. Heinz Co. has signed an agreement to acquire several brands from Borden Foods Corp., the companies announced today, including the Classico pasta sauce and Mrs. Grass and Wyler soup and boullion businesses.

Brands involved in the deal have combined sales of $270 million, but terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Also included were Aunt Millie's pasta sauce in the U.S. and Catelli, Bravo and Gattuso soup and sauce brands in Canada. Interpublic Group of Cos.' Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis, handled all the brands under Borden. -- Jack Neff
