The company is investing $240,000 in the first phase of the Henkel China Detergents R&D Center including two world-class labs, one state-of-the-art detergent testing center and one package development center.
The mission of the center is to develop new products tailored to the Chinese market.
The center will also focus on upgrading and performance evaluation of existing products and analysis of its competitors' products, preparation of standards and testing procedures for raw materials and provision of comprehensive support for the Henkel China Detergents Marketing headquarters in Beijing.
In addition, it will provide technological support to the sales and purchasing divisions of Henkel China and the company's four other manufacturing plants.
Rob Muir, general manager of Henkel China Detergents, said the new R&D center will play a crucial role in Henkel's operations in China by providing marketing with technologically advanced and cost-effective solutions to customer needs.
