Heynetwork.com, a portal for families, will launch its free service on Aug. 31. The site will enable children and teen-agers to complete purchases online, with parental authorization and approval. Heynetwork.com lets users create their own closed-community of family and friends. These groups can log into their own private site, where only invited members can view and participate in message boards, chat, e-mail, calendars, events and multi-player games online. This closed-community concept has several safety features to protect the privacy of its users and children online, including a parental control application and tools to allow parents to control or limit e-mail communication for their children. The company has agreements with e-commerce sites including JCPenney, Staples, Priceline.com, Smarterkids.com, dELIA*S, Fingerhut, The Sharper Image and CBS SportsLine.
