High court declines gambling case

Published on .

High court declines gambling caseThe U.S. Supreme Court today rejected a government request to immediately hear an appeal of a New Jersey case striking down as unconstitutional U.S. laws limiting gambling ads. The same rules have been struck down by courts covering nine western states on narrower grounds, but upheld in Louisiana, and the government had sought to resolve the different opinions quickly. The Louisiana case still may be heard by the high court, but for the moment the court's action means the New Jersey case filed by state gambling casinos will have to first be heard by a federal appeals court.
