Coca-Cola Co., Atlanta, will break a hip-hop themeTV campaign Aug. 10 for Sprite from Burrell Communications, Chicago, which handles African-American advertising for the brand. The national spots, a mix of animation and live action, are serial in form with five 30-second spots running into 1999 that link top regional hip-hop artists to the animated TV series "Voltron: Defender of the Universe." The spots will run on MTV, Cartoon Network, WB, BET and UPN. Radio and print ads support. Regional radio will emphasize a hip-hop artist most closely linked to that region, a Coca-Cola spokesman said. TV spots employ the "Obey your thirst" theme used in general market ads from Lowe
& Partners/SMS, New York.
