History plan rewritten

Published on .

The History Channel said it is backing away from a "Spirit of Enterprise" documentary series that would have cast the companies it profiled in the role of co-producers with control over editorial content. In a statement Thursday the History Channel said, "Due to recent concern expressed which suggested the appearance of lack of objectivity surrounding this work in progress, we felt it was in the best interest to abandon the idea. Our mission at The History Channel is to adhere to the highest programming standards which our viewers have come to expect." AT&T, Boeing Co. and Du Pont were among the sponsors who had signed on for the project.
