TORONTO--Leading U.K. music retailer HMV has chosen Canadaas the location to launch its worldwide web site.

The decision was based on the fact that Canada was the startingpoint of HMV's global expansion in 1987. Since then, HMV Canada has grown to 95 stores from coast to coast and employs a staff of 2,000.

The reunified and internationally popular band, Red Hot ChiliPeppers, is set to help launch the site by performing on stageoutside of a popular HMV store in downtown Toronto.

HMV.com will feature highlights of the Red Hot Chili Peppers eventthroughout the day, including a live performance, digital imagesfrom the concert and an interview with the band which will be archived for future enjoyment.

"What a great way to launch HMV.com. We are absolutely thrilled tohave one of the world's most exciting bands with us live online,"said Peter Luckhurst, president, HMV North America.

HMV was originally launched in the U.K. more than 40 years ago.
