Holiday e-commerce volume to approach nearly 60,000 transactions daily

Published on .

Leading e-commerce sites could process nearly 60,000 consumer transactions a day during the upcoming holiday season, leading the way to an eleven-fold increase in online commerce transactions between 1998 and 2003, according to Jupiter Communications. However, many sites have yet to make the infrastructure investments necessary to meet this growth and could experience site failures or an inability to deliver confirmed orders. With a forecast of an estimated $6 billion in sales online expected during this holiday season, the busiest sites will average 58,000 transactions per day during November and December, compared with an average of 29,000 transactions per day in 1998.
