HONG KONG--The Hong Kong Tourist Association has chosen True North Communications division Modem Media to develop its online strategy. The appointment follows a four-way pitch against incumbent The Web Connection as well as iMerchant and HKT/netvigator.

Modem Media, Hong Kong, will revamp the existing tourist association Web site (www.hkta.org) to communicate more intuitively, address a wider variety of interests and create a more customized and personalized experience to target audiences.

The new site will launch in the third quarter of 2000.

The new City of Life site will be designed to foster e-commerce and trade for Hong Kong-based companies, provide tourism information and travel news and promote Hong Kong as "gateway to China," says Mr. Wong.

"Hong Kong Tourist Association sees the Web site as the prime venue for attracting people to visit Hong Kong. It must not only tell, but also sell Hong Kong. We want to give every possible assistance to potential visitors and trade partners to Hong Kong," says Tony Tse, HKTA's general manager, marketing communications, Hong Kong.
