HOT SPOT: OLD NAVY: READY FOR THE TEST

The Gap Inc.'s Old Navy Supply Co. division is trying broadcast media on for size as it tests a back-to-school TV campaign. Ads are running in four major markets-New York, Chicago, Cleveland and Salt Lake City-and in Novato, Calif., near San Francisco. "The whole idea is to test the medium and its effectiveness," said Richard Crisman, director of marketing. Spots, created and placed in-house, feature the chain's mascot dog.
