Wired Ventures, in an attempt to better brand its various divisions, changed the operating name of its HotWired division to Wired Digital. The site will continue to be known as HotWired, but the division will take the new name. HardWired, the books division, becomes Wired Books in the revamp. HotWired VP-Marketing Hunter Madsen said the division made the switch so it could more easily manage its properties, which include the HotWired site, Wired News and HotBot.
Separately, Wired Digital on Monday launched NewBot, an intelligent search agent that seeks out new news content on the Net and delivers it to a user's desktop. NewBot will be available exclusively via Microsoft Internet Explorer at first. Users will be able to select topics of interest to them and program the NewBot to do searches and return with information. The search agent will be ad-supported.
