HP picks finalists

Hewlett-Packard Co.'s U.S. printer and peripherals division, Boise, Idaho, picked four finalists for its $40 million review: Fallon McElligott, Minneapolis; Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco; Rubin Postaer & Associates, Santa Monica, Calif.; and Team One Advertising, El Segundo, Calif., which has been working with sister agency and incumbent Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising, San Francisco, to save the account. A decision is expected in May.

Select Resources International, Los Angeles, is managing the review.

Five shops were eliminated from the review list: Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis; Dahlin Smith White, Salt Lake City; Foote, Cone & Belding and McCann-Erickson, San Francisco; and Highway One, Los Angeles.

Separately, Saatchi has dismissed 14 employees, or 16% of the San Francisco office's 89 staffers, in the wake of the printer review and loss of the $5 million-to-$6 million Kikkoman International account.
