Home is where the heart is, especially when it comes to the holidays. America's Research Group says half of Americans plan to travel less this year for Christmas.

Another finding by the Charleston, S.C., research company could bode ill for all the holiday movies. Only 37% said they expect to go to the theater to see a new film during the season. But undeterred, megamarketing efforts are under way for this year's bumper crop of holiday films.

Home is top of mind among retailers, too. From upscale department stores to mass merchandisers, almost everyone is peddling some kind of miniature village. Perhaps the villages remind consumers of bygone days ... when Christmas shopping didn't start until after Thanksgiving.
