McGraw-Hill Cos. has taken off the "for sale" at Byte after nobody would meet the $30 million asking price for the 511,000 circulation high-tech monthly. The bids received were said by industry executives to top out at around $18 million. McGraw-Hill bought the magazine in 1979 for a reputed $8 million. A company spokesman would not confirm that the title had been shopped recently but did insist that, "Byte is not for sale..
