The New York Daily News plans to introduced a bilingual (Spanish/English) paper called El Daily News on June 15. Circulation of the five-day-a-week paper is expected to be around 40,000; it will be circulated in Hispanic neighborhoods in New York City and northern New Jersey and at major commuter hubs. Newsstand price is 50 cents. A one-time page ad costs $950. Albore Ruiz, a former news editor of El Diario and executive editor of the defunct Mas, will be the editor in chief. A competitor, the 46,088 daily circulation El Diario La Prensa, was recently given a transfusion of funds from a coalition of new owners that included Time Warner.

promotion a record-breaker
Coca-Cola Co. says its "Coca-Cola Red Hot Summer" promotion, breaking June 1, is the largest promotion in its history. The 13-week under-the-cap promotion offer $55 million in available prizes and $1.5 billion in available discounts. Prizes include 25 Ford Explorer Sports, more than 100 million discounts on Foot Locker merchandise, local prizes and discounts and free merchandise from Coca-Cola bottlers.
