Mark Golin left his post as editor in chief of Dennis Publishing's Maxim to become editor of Conde Nast Publications' young men's title Details, New York. Michael Caruso, Details editor in chief, is leaving. Mr. Caruso, hired in May 1997 from Los Angeles, was expected to attract more readers and make more mainstream and accessible a title once known for downtown, hip elitism. Details' single-copy sales for the first half of 1998 were down 7.9% to 157,815, while total circulation of 476,290 declined 1.7% from a year earlier. Mr. Golin--a former colleague of Conde Nast's newest star editor, Glamour's Bonnie Fuller--helped perfect Maxim's rude and crude humorous editorial approach designed to appeal to the regular guy.
