IBM SURFS UP NEW AD FOR MINI

Published on .

ARMONK, N.Y.-IBM Corp. shows how a California surf shop uses an AS/400 computer in a new spot airing through April in the U.S. and Europe.

IBM is putting the minicomputer on TV to pitch ease of use and reliability. The commercial from Ogilvy & Mather, New York, uses IBM's corporate tagline, "Solutions for a small planet."

The spot, in 30- and 45-second versions, continues in the vein of IBM's good-humored recent ads, poking fun at Big Blue's move to more casual office attire.
