IBM ties to Super Bowl site

Published on .

IBM Corp. will be the official exclusive sponsor of the National Football League's Super Bowl XXXI Web site. The move was expected. The NFL claims this will be the biggest online sponsorship to date of an event-specific Web site; terms weren't disclosed. IBM, however, is not planning at this point to advertise on the Super Bowl TV broadcast, say sources close to the company. The Web site will be developed by the National Football League, Fox Sports and Starwave Corp. using IBM technology. The site opens Dec. 21 and will include a live cybercast of the game Jan. 26, with on-air and online cross-promotion between the site and Fox's telecast.
