IDG deal closing

Published on .

Boston-based trade publisher International Data Group is expected to announce Wednesday a deal to acquire Virtual City from publishing partners Newsweek and Virtual Communications, San Francisco. IDG launches its own consumer Web title, The Web, in mid-September, and is reportedly planning to fold content and resources from Virtual City into that publishing effort.

"I know Virtual City pretty well, and they were focusing on lifestyle issues surrounding the Web," said Greg Mason, publisher of The Web. "We're covering general interest and pop culture--as seen through the lens of the Web.".
