India's Vijay TV links up with MTV, Natgeo

Published on .

BOMBAY--Vijay TV, one of India's Tamil-language channels, has linked up with the global channels MTV and National Geographic Channel to air blocks of pop music and natural history programming. The move marks Vijay TV's shift from a general news and entertainment channel to an entertainment channel which caters to the young at heart'.

According to MTV Managing Director Alex Kuruvilla, the tie-up with an existing channel made more economic sense than creating a regional music channel from scratch.

The channel will also be ushering in a new fusion language called Tinglish for its music and film shows -- which is Tamil spliced with English words.
