InfoBeat sues Email Publishing

Published on .

E-mail publisher InfoBeat, Denver, has filed a patent infringement case against rival Email Publishing, Boulder, Colo. The suit, filed Oct. 19 in U.S. District Court in Denver, alleges that Email Publishing infringed on InfoBeat's patented personalized e-mail technology. InfoBeat applied for a patent on this technology April 6, 1995, and was notified on Aug. 11, 1998 it would be granted a patent.

``We're hoping for a speedy resolution to this,'' said an InfoBeat spokeswoman.

Email Publishing said it believed the case was without merit. ``We're going to defend it vigorously,'' said Andrew Currie, president CEO of Email Publishing. Email Publishing is about to be acquired by San Diego-based First Virtual Holdings. The acquisition was approved at First Virtual's stockholder's meeting on Dec. 9.
