Infoseek turns switch on Internet access

Published on .

Infoseek's online service, Infoseek Online Powered by AT&T WorldNet Service, went live Aug. 24. The service costs $9.95 per month for the first three months, subsequently going up to the standard AT&T WorldNet Service rate of $19.95 a month, plus 99 cents for each additional hour. Infoseek also launched "Communications Center," where users can find AT&T's online chat and conference call services. Competitors Lycos, Excite and Yahoo! all offer similar online and telecommunications services.

"I think there will be people who will want the whole package" of ISP access and portal content, said Infoseek President Harry Motro, "and that's why we're pursing this."
