|Richard Beaven has been named North American CEO of Initiative.
The appointment comes amid Interpublic’s lengthy search for a successor to Mr. Gerster, who is expected to move into a new role when a candidate is found.
“I have over 30 years experience and perspective that have been valuable to clients the media and even the financial community. Mark [Rosenthal, head of Interpublic Media] and I know that there are aspects of this background that could be valuable to IPG Media and IPG beyond Initiative. However, my responsibility and focus for now and the foreseeable future is Initiative and the great team we have been putting together,” Mr. Gerster said in a statement.
Led P&G business
Mr. Beaven, who at MediaVest led the agency’s Procter & Gamble Co. planning business, will be based in New York.
He moved to MediaVest in December 2001 as director-product development from U.K. planning director at Starcom Motive in London. He worked on Coca-Cola Co. before jumping to the consumer products giant’s business two years ago.
Mr. Beaven is the second Publicis executive to be recruited to Interpublic’s media operations. Nick Brien, CEO of Universal McCann, came from Publicis' Arc in the past year.
Neither Mr. Beaven nor MediaVest could be reached for comment.
