ESPN sold out its inventory of top-level sponsors for the first Winter X Games, Jan. 30 to Feb. 2 at Snow Summit Mountain, Big Bear Lake, Calif. Sponsors include newcomers Volkswagen of America and Procter & Gamble Co.'s Pringles, plus ongoing Summer X Games sponsors AT&T Corp., Nike and PepsiCo's Mountain Dew and Taco Bell.

Nintendo of America, Blockbuster Video and Nickelodeon last week announced details of a $20 million promotion for the hotly anticipated Nintendo 64 game system. Sampling and instant-win prizes are included in the promotion, which kicks off Sept. 30 with the game's U.S. debut.

Bayer Corp.'s Alka-Seltzer is running the "Marquee Matchups" college football promotion this fall, supporting the College Football Hall. Point-of-purchase entry materials are available at 5,000 retail locations nationwide; awards include four grand prizes of expenses-paid trips for two to 1996's national college football championship game. Botsford Group, Atlanta, won promotion responsibilities for Airheads, a candy aimed at kids, in the U.S. The brand is marketed by Van Melle USA, maker of Mentos.
