Dell Computer Corp. is partnering with Xerox Corp. to sell a line of Xerox office printers to Dell's small business and corporate customers using Dell's well-known direct marketing sales model. Xerox joins several other companies, including Hewlett-Packard Co. and Lexmark International, as preferred printing partners with Dell. The printers are available for sale on dell.com and will be the subject of joint marketing efforts between the companies.
InfoUSA, an Omaha-based database company, acquired Getko Direct Response, Toronto, from Cendant Corp. Getko is a direct marketing and mailing list company that contacts 300,000 new homeowners a month with its cooperative advertising product. Jonathan Latsky, who was president of Syntony Marketing before it was purchased by Getko in 1996, will join infoUSA's management team and handle the company's Canadian list, directory and reseller divisions.
Direct Partners, Santa Monica, Calif., opened a New York office via its acquisition FSA Communications. The New York office of Omnicom Group-owned Direct Partners now serves clients including Citibank, General Motors Corp.'s OnStar, Pitney Bowes and Unilever. Ed Forti, former managing partner of FSA, will serve as managing director for the New York office. Direct Partners, which had $12 million in revenue last year on a 330%-plus increase in billings to $160.9 million, announced the formation of a office in San Francisco last month. The direct shop also is preparing to open an office in Atlanta to handle work for EarthLink.
