More than 51 million U.S. adults ages 16 and older are now accessing the Internet, according to a new Intelliquest Information Group survey. That represents a 46% increase from a year ago when only 35 million were online. An additional 8.5 million adults said they plan to be online by the end of the year. Online shopping also enjoyed a considerable jump in the Intelliquest survey. About 17% of online users said they shopped online, with a median expenditure of about $50 per month. That's three times as many people shopping online as a year ago.
