U.S. interactive direct-marketing sales will reach almost $2 billion this year, according to projections by the Direct Marketing Association. The association also forecasts sales in the year 2002 at $31.3 billion. The top five industries using the Internet to generate sales are, in order: business services, computers, communications, office equipment and printing/publishing. The DMA predicted the communications industry will overtake the others within five years, generating sales of more than $2.8 billion by 2002.
