WHAT'S THERE: In typical Guess? fashion, the creators of the site went for the dramatic look-lots of black & white photos that take ridiculously long to download. In an area called Flashback, Guess? provides a brief history of how the French design company came to "set a standard for the new vision of denim." Some vision. We saw a lot more flash than we did jeans on this site.

WHAT'S THERE: When G.E. hired Meta4, it put the tiny developer on the map. The job: Make sense of G.E.'s entire product and service line. The verdict: success. The site is clean and sparely illustrated. Navigation, a key sticking point for large sites, is a snap. Most of the information is straightforward and sometimes bland, but pizzazz isn't the point here. One quibble: Offering info on general promotional offers is nice, but there ought to be some special incentive for Web users.
