Designed for upscale families with in-home multimedia PCs, the service bows with content from Time and Sports Illustrated for Kids, access to CompuServe's online merchandising area and Web access through a partnership with Lycos' A2Z search engine.
`A WORLD OF OPEN STANDARDS'
Conceived as a standalone service for beginners, WOW has joined others in the online industry in migrating toward the Web.
"We began from a proprietary perspective and gazed out at a world of open standards," said Scott Kauffman, CompuServe VP-consumer markets.
The service boasts built-in technology offering parental controls, which will also play a pivotal role in WOW's upcoming marketing efforts, including TV spots, from Martin/Williams, Minneapolis.
WOW has also partnered with 110 Tandy Corp. Incredible Universe and Computer City stores to distribute free CD-ROM discs offering access to the service.
