In April, Greg Stuart resigned as head of Wunderman Cato Johnson's interactive group to become exec VP-marketing at Interactive Imaginations, developer of the Riddler gaming site on the Web. In doing so, he joined a long list of agency interactive chiefs hoping to find new challenges in startup companies.
But as of last week, Mr. Stuart and Interactive Imaginations Chairman-CEO Michael Paolucci had parted ways, saying their cultures and goals just didn't mesh.
"These things don't always work out," Mr. Paolucci said. "He was exec VP-marketing; it was about marketing." Mr. Stuart declined to comment on his departure.
SPENDING MORE TIME ON SALES?
One executive familiar with the company said Interactive Imaginations realized that bringing advertisers into Riddler (http://www.
riddler.com) and its Commonwealth Web advertising network (http://www.commonwealth.com) was a more immediate concern than long-range marketing plans. Mr. Paolucci wouldn't confirm that.
Succeeding Mr. Stuart is Jack Bonanni, the former ESPN ad sales executive who had been brought in to run Interactive Imaginations' sales department. Mr. Paolucci said he expects to replace Mr. Stuart, but for the time being, Mr. Bonanni will do both jobs.
