After a six-month trial with Time Warner's Full Service Network in Orlando, U S West will license GoTV to Tribune Co.'s The Orlando Sentinel. Terms were undisclosed.
"We're letting go of GoTV because of a corporate decision to not focus on internal development," said Debbie Schmidt, general manager-entertainment products of U S West Interactive Services. "We're looking to do more investing in a variety of interactive applications."
U S West's pending acquisition of Continental Cablevision also marks the company's renewed commitment to distributing and packaging existing content. The company spent in excess of $10 million developing GoTV.
GUIDE TIES IN WITH `SENTINEL'
The Sentinel and U S West had worked together on GoTV, an interactive guide to Orlando's movies, restaurants and calendars.
"The local entertainment guides tie in well with the Sentinel's features and calendar sections," said Maryann Schulze, project manager of Tribune Interactive Network Services.
GoTV this week plans to introduce a new feature called GoTV Dining, which offers detailed information on 50 Orlando-area restaurants.
FSN PICKS UP NATIONAL AD SALES
The Sentinel will continue to sell local advertising for the service. However, U S West, which handled national advertisers including Toyota Motor Sales USA's Lexus division and Visa International, will pass that baton to the Full Service Network.
"We've given the national advertisers options regarding continued participation," said Ms. Schmidt.
