Interpublic reports 2nd qtr gains

Interpublic Group of Cos., New York, reported second quarter net income rose 24.8% to $116.4 million from a year ago on gross income of $972.4 million, a 17.8% increase. For the first six months of 1998, Interpublic net income rose 24.1% to $152.2 million, on gross income of $1.748 billion, a 16.2% increase. Interpublic agencies brought in $294 million in net new business during the quarter, a 24% increase. Interpublic agencies brought in $817 million in net new business in the first six months, compared to $709 million during the same period in 1997.
