Interpublic unit buys GM agency

Kaleidoscope Sports & Entertainment, New York, a subsidiary of Interpublic Group of Cos., said it acquired Alpha One Marketing Group, Coldwater, Mich., an event marketing and management agency that works for General Motors Corp.'s Oldsmobile division. Alpha One will be merged into Kaleidoscope's GM EventWorks unit, which has offices in Detroit and New York. GM EventWorks specializes in sports, entertainment and site-based marketing. Alpha One manages the Oldsmobile Scramble, which is described as the world's largest grass-roots golf program. Dick Garn, founder, president and general manager of Alpha One, becomes exec VP of Kaleidoscope and director of GM EventWorks.
