IPG media buys

Interpublic Group of Cos., with its subsidiary Western International Media, will acquire media planning and buying companies Media Inc. and Media Direct Partners, both of New York. Media Inc. said it has billings of over $175 million, though other sources put the figure at closer to $50 million. Clients include Meineke Discount Muffler Shops, Club Med and Chock Full O'Nuts. Media Direct Partners' clients include Reader's Digest, ERA Realty, TV Guide and Ralston Purina. Both units will operate independently, reporting to Western's corporate management.
