IPG profits up 26%

Interpublic Group of Cos., New York, said third-quarter net income climbed 26% over a year ago to $59 million. Gross income of $1.04 billion was up 14.7%. Gross income from U.S. operations rose 22.7%, and international operations were up 6.5%. Interpublic's agency systems gained net new billings of about $417 million, up 7% from a year ago. Nine-month results: net income up 19.7% to $243 million, gross income up 11.9% to $3.1 billion; U.S. operations up 15.8%, international up 7.7%; net new billings of $1.5 billion, up 28%.
