Ireland's Campbell-Bewley's buys Java

Irish cafe, restaurant and catering group Campbell-Bewleys has completed the takeover of the California-based cafe and restaurant chain Java. The deal, worth $16 million, includes roasting facilities, 37 cafe outlets and supply agreements with 300 licensed cafes throughout the U.S. Jave and Campbell-Bewleys posted respective revenues of $45 million in 2000 and $210 million in 2000. In 1998, the company acquired the Massachusetts-based Rebecca cafe and restaurant chain with 35 outlets in the greater Boston area.
