Isuzu rebuts CU

Isuzu Motors held a press conference in Washington to defend its Trooper sports utility vehicle against charges it was unsafe. It described a collision avoidance simulation by Consumers Union in which the Trooper became unstable as "unscientific." Isuzu said that since CU's Consumer Reports rated the Trooper "not acceptable" in its October issue, the company has reviewed the information and commissioned independent test. It said no evidence was found to support CU's charges.
