BOMBAY -- Italian sports footwear marketer Fila Sports will soon launch its products in India through a licensing agreement with New Delhi-based Moja Shoes, currently a manufacturer of Nike footwear.
Fila, which claims to be the third-largest sports footwear brand in the U.S., will introduce a range of athletic and sports footwear for games like tennis, soccer, running, basketball and fitness, besides casual canvas shoes, hiking boots and sandals.
Moja will pay Fila a royalty for footwear sold in India, a highly competitive market with marketers like Reebok International, K Swiss, Lotto, Adidas, Nike, Mesco's, Liberty, Woodlands and Bata India.
While the Italian marketer will provide the technology, Moja's contract with Nike is restricted to manufacturing footwear for New Delhi-based Sierra Industrial Enterprises, which is the licensee for the U.S. marketer. Footwear manufacture is reserved by law for small-scale firms in India, although marketing and sales are handled by the footwear marketers.
