(May 9, 2001) -- IXL Enterprises, Atlanta, today laid off 300 people in general Web building, after announcing on Tuesday the formation of a new client service and delivery structure.

The company reduced its staff from about 1,300 to approximately 1,000 positions. IXL was quick to emphasize in Tuesday's announcement that it has hired more than 25 new senior client service and delivery managers and approximately 175 professionals overall during the course of the year.

The new industry groups and service lines include financial services, travel and transportation, manufacturing, retail and consumer goods and enterprise services. -- Adrienne Mand
