Japan advertising higher

Advertising expenditures in Japan for the fiscal year ended March 31 is estimated to have increased by 3.6% over a year ago, according to the Nikkei Advertising Research Institute--the first ad growth there in three years. Of the 18 industries surveyed, 12 increased ad spending in fiscal year 1995-96. In the previous fiscal year only seven industries reported increases. The auto industry registered the largest increase -- 21.7%. The information/communications industry increased its ad spending by 6%.
