Juno hits a million

Juno Online Services, a New York-based provider of free e-mail service, has signed up one million subscribers. Launched last April, the service--backed with at least $100 million from deep-pocketed investor D.E. Shaw & Co.--plans to survive through the sale of advertising and products via the e-mail service. Juno advertisers include Columbia House Records, Sony Theatres and Miramax Films. Rival service Freemark Communications last month shut its doors after attempts to find additional funding didn't pan out.
