JWT isn't buying TV station contests

J. Walter Thompson USA, New York, said that for negotiating purposes it will eliminate share increases garnered by TV stations that run contests during sweeps; if a station protests, Thompson will not buy time on it. The American Association of Advertising Agencies, calling watch-and-win contests by TV stations during ratings sweeps "intentional efforts to distort/hype station ratings," asked Nielsen Media Research to provide agencies a post-sweeps report citing the stations.
