This week, J. Walter Thompson Co. will name Patrick Corry, former head of the global Frito-Lay account at BBDO Worldwide, exec VP-director in charge of its Unilever North America business.
Carol Potter, who had been running that account, moves to the agency's London office in the new position of deputy global business director on Unilever.
The moves come at a time when Unilever has publicly challenged its agencies to "think outside the box."
"Carol's done a fantastic job for us, and this is a recognition of that. Our Unilever business in North America is three times the size it was when she came on," said Chris Jones, worldwide CEO of JWT.
CORRY'S TRACK RECORD
Mr. Jones also cited Mr. Corry's track record in enhancing both revenues and the creative product while on Frito-Lay at BBDO.
He directed the business for 21/2 years, first in North America and then globally.
While Frito-Lay and Unilever both sell package goods, there are differences Mr. Corry hopes to use to Unilever's advantage.
"Technically, they're both package goods, but Frito-Lay is not as traditional. That's one of the reasons they brought me over," Mr. Corry said. "Frito-Lay is a brand with a certain image, and I'm coming from BBDO, which is known as really creative."
"The most interesting piece is the challenge Unilever has set out for us, as well as the challenge we have set out for ourselves," said Ms. Potter. "It's really . . . to push out on the boundaries and break out of the traditional way of doing things, which we are both keen to do."
Ms. Potter's move to London is a return home for the U.K. native.
