Hugh Duncan, CEO of the $150 million independent shop whose main client is grocery store chain Abertson's Inc., Boise, Idaho, said Mr. Tolpin will replace Sandy Jones, vice president-creative director, who left the agency as part of what he termed a "restructuring."
He said the agency, with offices in Chicago, Los Angeles and Philadelphia, also cut eight of its 60 employees.
Before taking the J. Walter Thompson post, Mr. Tolpin was regional creative chairman of Omnicom Group's BBDO Worldwide and president and CEO of BBDO South, which had the $100 million Delta Airlines account. The primary client at JWT was Sprint Corp.
Mr. Duncan said Mr. Tolpin will reinforce the agency's new business opportunities. -- Alice Z. Cuneo
