K-III buys five titles

Published on .

K-III Communications Corp. purchased five special interest magazines from two California-based companies controlled by R.C "Clyde" Packer. The magazines include Bodyboarding and Surfing, which were published by San Clemente-based Western Empire Publications, and Car Audio & Electronics, Audio/Video Interiors and Volleyball, published by a Woodland Hills-based Avcom Publishing Ltd., an affiliate of Western. "Clyde" Packer is the younger brother of Australian press baron Kerry Packer, who controls Fairfax Publishing, a newspaper and magazine empire. "We intend to continue publishing all five," said William Porter, president/CEO of K-III's McMullen Argus Publishing, which will oversee the newly acquired titles.
