[detroit] Keith E. Crain has been named chairman of Crain Communications Inc.

With the board's announcement, Mr. Crain becomes the third chairman in the company's 81-year history. Founder G.D. Crain Jr. served until 1973, followed by his wife, Gertrude R. Crain. Mrs. Crain passed away July 20.

Keith Crain previously held the title of vice chairman. Advertising Age Editor in Chief Rance Crain remains company president.

Crain Communications publishes 30 business, trade and consumer publications, including Advertising Age and Automotive News, and operates two radio stations
