Kraft creates e-commerce unit

Kraft Foods, Northfield, Ill., has created an E-Commerce Division. Heading the new operation, with the title exec VP-president, is Paula A. Sneed, moving from senior VP-marketing services and chief marketing officer. Lance Friedmann moves to senior VP-marketing services from VP-marketing/ strategy and development, Meals Division. Ms. Sneed continues as a member of Kraft's Operating Committee, and Mr. Friedmann joins this senior-most management team. They will report to Kraft Foods Exec VP Betsy Holden. "The time is right for Kraft to capture more of the abundant business opportunities available through e-commerce," said President-CEO Robert Eckert. "We've gotten a taste of the Internet's possibilities through our Kraft Interactive Kitchen, but that's just a beginning. With the creation of our E-Commerce Division, we're dedicating the resources necessary to leverage this channel effectively for future growth." Colgate-Palmolive Co. this week also named its first chief Web officer.
