Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Winston-Salem, N.C., acquired Digital Java, a Chicago-based mircoroaster of premium coffees. The acquisition will help the doughnut purveyor enter the intensely competitive coffee retailer market currently led by Starbucks Corp.
